Anti-Ragging Committee

Ragging is defined as any disorderly conduct, whether by words spoken or written or by an act, has the effect of teasing, treating, or handling with rudeness a fresher or a junior student. Indulging in a rowdy or undisciplined activity that causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or junior student. Asking the students to do any act or perform something that such students will not do in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or junior student. This can lead to adverse effects such as depression, anxiety, and sometimes even suicide.

Objectives:
  • To root out ragging in all its forms from the college campus, by prohibiting it by law, preventing its occurrence by following the provisions of these Regulations and punishing those who indulge in ragging as provided for in these Regulations and the appropriate law in force.
  • To counsel senior students to refrain from instigating students against junior students.
  • To keep an alert eye to avoid any ragging incidence and walk around the campus to ensure that no such activity is taking place.
  • To conduct a systematic inquiry into matter (where necessary) and submit a report to the higher authorities for concerned action.
  • The faculty members can take the help of the member students as and when required and can also involve them in different activities relating to Anti-Ragging Committee, for prohibition of ragging and provide a ragging free environment for the students.
  • Anti-Ragging Committee meetings will be held twice in each semester.
Punishable acts of Ragging:
  • Abetment to ragging
  • Criminal conspiracy to rag
  • Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging
  • Public nuisance created during ragging
  • Violation of decency and morals through ragging
  • Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt
  • Wrongful restraint
  • Wrongful confinement
  • Use of criminal force
  • Assault as well as sexual offences or even unnatural offences
  • Extortion
  • Criminal trespass
  • Offences against property
  • Criminal intimidation
  • Attempts to commit any or all of the above-mentioned offences
  • against the victim(s)
  • Physical or psychological humiliation.
  • All other offences following from the definition of “Ragging”
Measures for prohibition of ragging:

Ragging in all its forms shall be totally banned in the college campus including its departments, all its premises (Academic, sports, canteen, etc.) located within the campus. The college and Anti ragging cell shall take strict action against those found Guilty of ragging and/or of abetting ragging.

Measures for prevention of ragging at the institution level:
  • The student handbook contains instructions against ragging.
  • The candidates and their parents/ guardians have to give an undertaking in respect of the Prohibition and consequences of ragging.
Awardable Punishments in the College level:

Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the Anti-Ragging Committee of the institution, the possible punishments for those found guilty of ragging at the institution level shall be any one or any combination of the following:

  • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
  • Cancellation of admission.
  • Rustication from the institution for a period as decided by the committee
